So, everyone always asks, “How is the real estate market doing?” Well, here’s the answer!!! Despite what you may hear on the news about real estate in the nation, properties are moving in Metairie and surrounding areas! There’s some good news for a change! Back in April JEDCO posted a press release announcing this info. I know, I”m a few months late, sorry! The list at www.relocateamerica.com doesn’t appear to be in any specific order, but as I counted down the list it appeared Metairie was around 54th, right next to Mandeville on the northshore.
Being a native and resident of Metairie, I think this is great news!! For people wanting to be close to New Orleans, but not wanting to live in the city, Metairie is a great alternative!
The Relocate America list ranks cities based on growth, environmental qualities, education, employment, crime, recreation, housing, etc. Metairie was chosen out of nearly 1800 nominations for other cities around the country.

The average home listed in the Bissonet area has been on the market for 124 days.

Home sales in the Bissonet area have been slightly up and down this year, but have been higher and more constant in June and July. A few reasons for this could be that Summer months tend to be favored for moves by families with school children, and also some positive signs of housing market recovery as noted by the media. However, home sales in the area remain slightly down from 2008 as shown below.


The number of home sales in the area has been progressively decreasing since 2006. However, one has to take into account that an unusually high number of homes were sold in 2006 after Hurricane Katrina, to displaced residents from other surrounding areas. While home sales are down slightly from 2008 figures, there has been positive news on the housing market recently, as well as the available first-time homebuyer tax credit that could bring the Bissonet area’s sales close if not breakeven to 2008 figures.
